May – Dinner & Discussion
Hi all,
About a dozen of us gathered on Wednesday, April 3 at Yummy Yummy for another meeting and great meal.
Our topic was ‘how do you handle the news’?
- The majority said that the news depresses them, one reported ‘severely’. Day after day we are subjected to the horrors of war, oppression, poverty, and more.
- What if only ethical, intelligent, knowledgeable people ran for office and we could EDUCATE all children so they will choose candidates who will make ethical leaders? A naive but worthwhile hope!
- Would people tune into the news if it only covered positive topics-how many people emerged from poverty, got good jobs, found love? Would we crave the horrible stories? We talked about the fact that ‘the news’ is entertainment, sadly not an unbiased, objective reporting of facts and events.
The next meeting of the Grey Bruce Humanists will take place on Wednesday May 1 at 5:30 pm. We will have our dinner meeting at Yummy Yummy (251 10th St E, Owen Sound, Owen Sound) We originally thought Sabitri’s, but they had a recent family loss.
Starting Topic – It’s not often that we get a chance to experience a “celestial” event. The ellipse was not something that humans had arranged, but rather a reflection of the vastness of the ball we are on. Did you find it shifted your perspective at all?
