Secularism is the principle of separating religion from civil affairs, government, and education. It supports a neutral public sphere where people of all beliefs, and no religious belief, can participate equally. Leslie Rosenblood explores what secularism is, what it is not, and why it matters for a free and inclusive society. He reflects on how secularism has developed in Canada, where it stands today, and where it may be heading. He also compares Canada’s experience with that of the United States and considers where Canada is living up to its secular ideals, and where there is still work to do.

Leslie Rosenblood is a Humanist Officiant, Secular Chair of the Centre for Inquiry Canada, and host of the Podcast for Inquiry.
After the video, we will have time for questions, and discussion and informal conversation.
