Hope you have had an excellent summer with lots of human engagement! We are back to our scheduled gatherings and the next meeting of the Grey Bruce Humanists will take place at 5:30 PM, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 , at Yummy Yummy Restaurant,   10th St. E., Owen Sound (parking at the rear).

The topic will be: What kind of organisational “push back” should we consider in response to the local issue shown below.

It seems that 2 local groups recently connected under false principles.

A local group called ‘100 Good Men Who Give a Damn’ have seemingly unwittingly given a $19,000 donation under false pretenses, saying Grey Bruce Pregnancy Centre (GBPC) “told us that they are pro-choice” and “have specially trained staff to give counselling and help women choosing abortion.”

As Secular Humanists we feel responsible for non-religious organizations pushing a religious position on the public. This was true for municipalities starting meetings with pray or when our local Hospice denied MAID (Medical Aid in Dying) for their residents.

This is different, where a religious group claims to hold “non-religious” values in order to be acceptable for fund support from a local, non-religious group. They clearly are not “pro-choice” and never should have made this claim. The abortion issue is part of their “religious tradition”. For them to speak falsely and deny their values in exchange for money seems to be unconscionable conduct.

Some letter writing maybe in order, but to whom do we write?
